Day 36
We packed up at our free campsite and then made the two or so hour drive to Whyalla, which was to be our home for the next two nights.
We had to look at Whyalla's unique circular jetty and there were so many butterflies there, like, SO many butterflies! And then out on the jetty there were all these birds that were swooping and eating the butterflies - it was madness! All the rain that has happened in Central Australia earlier this year has just made everything blossom and along with that all the insects blossom too.

Then we had some lunch before we headed over to the caravan park where we were staying. It was very nice to have a proper shower that wasn't limited to 5 minutes. We did some laundry and chilled until that was dry and then in the evening we went back to the jetty to try our hand at some squidding. Again we were unlucky and caught nothing. We did catch a lot of seaweed though!

Day 37
We had a pretty relaxed start to the day and then we did a little drive down the coast to a town called Cowell for some lunch. We wanted to go to this bakery that had quite good reviews on Google but when we got there they were shut for the month of April - how rude! We found another bakery in town, thankfully, as we'd worked up an appetite for baked goods. They didn't have much left but luckily still they had one Cornish pasty and a spinach and feta pastry so Chris and I were both happy. They also had finger buns and Chris was very excited to have one of those! I've never quite understood the bread covered in icing thing, like, I'd much rather have a cake but you know, each to their own. We wandered down to the jetty to eat our lunch and again didn't see anything in the water. This algae really seems to have got rid of the marine life. I stopped at a loo that had this sign on the door:
And inside there was indeed a lot of art! I thought it was really funny. I didn't buy anything though as it wasn't my cup of tea 🙃 We then made the drive back to Whyalla and had a little drive around the town looking at the hotspots.
In the winter months Whyalla is visited by giant cuttlefish, which grow up to a metre long and weigh 10.5kg - sounds pretty giant! You can dive with them, And there's even a cuttlefish festival. Unfortunately, we were a month or two too early to be able to do this but we'll just have to come back at some point I guess 😉 In honour of the cuttlefish, there is a sculpture near the jetty called Craig the Cuttlefish. I had kept forgetting to look for Craig and Chris goes "we've walked past Craig like four times!" And sure enough there he was - I had completely missed him the the other few times we'd been to the jetty. Did someone say Specsavers? But here is Craig in all his glory:
That evening we were going to go back to the jetty to try and try and catch something again but it got really cold so we ended up just going into our swag and playing a bunch of Yahtzee.
Day 38
We packed up and drove to a small town called Kimba where The Big Galah lives. I loved this one. It's had a beautiful paint job in recent years and it's just lovely! I think it's up there with The Big Lobster. The Roadhouse there was very quirky as well with were lots of other (normal sized) animal statues around.

We then stopped at Arno Bay for a very average lunch. I got to have a go on a jumping pillow at the playground near the cafe. I've seen a few of them around but I've just never been able to have a go on one because they've either been deflated or there's been lots of children around. But this one was deserted so I was able to have a jump on it! For those who aren't aware I got a trampoline for my 41st birthday! And whilst the pillow was not quite as fun and bouncy as my trampoline, it was still good fun and I laughed a lot! Chris even had a quick go on it but then his back wasn't very happy so he had to stop.
Me being very silly on the jumping pillow!

After all that fun, we hopped back into the car and drove over to a boardwalk in that town, which took us through little scrubby areas and along the creek. We saw lots of mangroves and barely any wildlife. Chris did see a little lizard that was yellow and spotty but we can't find any evidence of it on the internet so I don't know what it was. The walk itself was very nice though and it took us all the way down to the beach. It was a nice walk to break up this otherwise long driving day.

We made a quick stop at Port Lincoln just to get some food (and some beers) for the next couple of days and then drove to our campsite at Yangie Bay. As soon as we drove in, we saw three kangaroos just munching on grass around the campsites. It was very exciting! And then we later found out that it seems like these kangaroos were getting fed by people as they seemed a bit too tame. There was one kangaroo that was just particularly attractive - I mean I think all kangaroos are cute and lovely, it's just this one had a really lovely face. I ended up calling her Belle, which I know is a bit of a pedestrian sort of name for something that's beautiful, but I named her that because there was also a younger kangaroo with her, and so she was obviously Baby Belle! Well, it makes me laugh anyway!
